What an incredible year 2024 was! It’s a year we’ll certainly remember, marked by joy, community connection, and a successful effort to raise funds that empower adults with developmental disabilities right here in our community.

This year, we had the privilege of participating in and volunteering at some truly remarkable events around town. Bratfest 2024 stands out as one of the most memorable weekends. Despite the stormy weather, many of you showed up to volunteer on our behalf, ensuring the event ran smoothly. At the Disability Pride Festival in July, we had the opportunity to connect with the broader disability community and celebrate the incredible diversity and strength within it. We also enjoyed engaging with many of you at Taste of Madison. A heartfelt thank you to all who volunteered, visited our tables, or simply stopped by to offer support at these events. Your continued dedication to our cause does not go unnoticed.

We have been deeply moved by the overwhelming support this year—not just in your participation at our events, but also in your generosity toward our fundraising efforts. Thanks to our partnership with Delta Beer Lab for their Change Up Tuesday events, as well as Dove from The Quirky Dove, we’ve been able to support local businesses while sharing our mission with the community.

We also want to take a moment to acknowledge your incredible financial contributions during two of our largest fundraising campaigns. This summer, in celebration of CSN’s 33 years in business, your support helped us exceed our $3,000 goal during our 3K in 33 Days campaign. That achievement was truly special. Then, on Giving Tuesday, your generosity allowed us to surpass our goal and raise an astounding $5,735!

Every donation—big or small—whether through an event, campaign, or just because, has made a meaningful difference. Your commitment of time and resources to CSN and the people we serve is already creating a lasting impact.

We look forward to continuing our mission in 2025, ensuring that adults with developmental disabilities have the tools and opportunities to contribute to and thrive in every aspect of community life.

Thank you for being a part of this amazing journey!

Enrichment

Seasons of Fun:

Creative Activities for Every Time of Year

Our 2024 was filled with a wide variety of activities, from performing mind-boggling science experiments to rediscovering our love for gardening, exploring different art mediums, and finding new ways to share and celebrate the things we’re grateful for. We especially enjoy finding activities that capture the essence of each season. Here are some of our favorites from the past year!

Winter: Homemade Hand Scrub

With the cold, dry weather of winter, our hands were in need of some extra care. A homemade hand scrub quickly became a favorite winter activity. Made with sugar, sea salt, coconut oil, and a dash of essential oils, it left our hands feeling soft and nourished throughout the season.

Spring: Indoor Garden

As winter gave way to spring, we were inspired by the blossoming flowers and the new growth that warmer temperatures bring. We decided to create our own indoor garden, eagerly watching our seedlings grow into healthy plants. Not only did we enjoy the process, but we also had the pleasure of sharing the plants with our community, spreading a little bit of nature’s beauty.

Summer: Citrus Dish Towels

During the summer, Lisa, one of our dedicated volunteers, brought us a fun citrus-themed dish towel activity. Using oranges, lemons, and limes as stamps, we crafted these colorful towels. Each one was unique, shaped by the individual’s creativity, and provided us with a practical kitchen item. Now, every time we use them, we’re reminded of the fun we had making them together.

Fall: Gratitude Tree

As we transitioned into fall and the holiday season, we focused on creating a beautiful display to reflect on the things we’re thankful for. We cut out leaf shapes from watercolor paper, wrote down what we were grateful for, and added watercolor accents to each one. Then, we hung them from a tree branch to create a simple yet meaningful display. It served as a daily reminder to appreciate the wonderful things in our lives.

These are just a few of the many projects we enjoyed in 2024, but they stand out as some of our favorites. We can’t wait to see what exciting adventures and creative activities 2025 holds!

Wellness

Winter Wellness:

Fun Ways to Stay Active When It’s Cold Outside

January is here, and with it comes the time for new resolutions and plans for the year ahead. For many of us, getting more active is a common goal—but it can be especially tough during the cold Wisconsin winters.

In Wisconsin, winter often means we’re not out for walks or bike rides. Gym memberships can be expensive, and even if you do belong to one, transportation can be a challenge. But this winter, remember to be kind to yourself—small amounts of activity can have big benefits for your mental and physical health!

If you're looking for ideas to stay active while cooped up at home this winter, here are a few simple options:

  • Exercise videos on YouTube – We love following Paul Eugene, whose energetic routines with catchy music keep us motivated and having fun! He offers a variety of routines, from standing and sitting exercises to low-impact options, so there's something for everyone.

  • Quick movement breaks – As soon as you wake up or after sitting for a while, get moving! Try a few jumping jacks, toe touches, or cross-body arm stretches. These will loosen your muscles and get your blood flowing to warm you up in the cold. Jumping jacks can be modified to fit your needs—try them seated or tap your toes side to side for a non-jumping version.

No matter what you do, remember that any movement is a step toward a healthier, happier you this year!

Volunteers Who Shine:

Celebrating 2024's Incredible Impact

Our volunteers truly went above and beyond in 2024, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their dedication. The time and energy each volunteer brings to every day and event at CSN is nothing short of inspiring. Our events and programs would not be as successful or fulfilling without their efforts, and we are incredibly thankful for every one of them.

A special shoutout goes to our volunteers who braved the rainy Memorial Day weekend at Bratfest and those who helped keep attendees hydrated at the always popular Taste of Madison. You rock! Your support not only helped these events run smoothly but also strengthened CSN's connection with the community, ensuring some of Madison’s favorite events went off without a hitch.

We also want to highlight the incredible work of our regular volunteers who dedicate their time each week or month to support us. These amazing individuals bring joy, creativity, and laughter to CSN, enriching our activities and brightening our days. The patience and positivity you share do not go unnoticed, and our enrichment program is stronger because of your continued support.

Additionally, CSN has had the privilege of partnering with Ellyn and Donna, who volunteer their time to lead the Caregivers Expressive Writing Workshop. These two bring invaluable personal caregiving experience and expertise in journaling, providing caregivers in our community with a safe, supportive space to express their experiences through writing.

We also want to extend our deepest thanks to our dedicated Board of Directors. These individuals volunteer their time and expertise to help CSN achieve its mission and continue serving the people we support. Interested in joining our Board? Keep reading to learn more!

Together, these volunteers contributed over 700 hours of their time through events, meetings, and regular visits to CSN. We are overwhelmed by your generosity and commitment, and we can’t wait to see what 2025 brings. Thank you for everything you do!
